Failed to register Dubai car for 3 years? You’ve a months time to do it

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is implementing a new rule whereby owners who have failed to renew their annual vehicle registration for a period of three or more years will find their vehicles written off.

The Licensing Agency of the RTA is working on arrangements for deleting vehicles from the Unified Traffic System whose registration has expired over the set time frame.

The move is aimed to ensure the safety of road users and spearheading the eradication of potential accidents caused by such vehicles that lack maintenance and annual safety tests mandated by traffic rules.

Mohammed Abdul Karim Nimat, Director of Vehicles Licensing at the RTA, said: “This resolution has come to light after an elaborate study of various safety, security and quality aspects”.

The Licensing Agency has stated it will start removing vehicles from the traffic system in early July this year.

This grace period, from now until July, offers owners the time to have their vehicles tested and registrations renewed as per the applicable system in the emirate, he added.
