Dubai to get its own font

Dubai is known to set records of all sorts and here is yet another unique one.

Recently Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella was in the UAE and during his visit, amongst other things, the Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive Council, signed an MoU with Nadella, under which Microsoft will provide technical support for the design and issuance of the Dubai font.

A new typesetting called 'Dubai font' is being developed by Microsoft in Arabic and English.

The font will be the first of its kind to be developed, which promotes a city and bears its name.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, directed the general secretariat of the council to work on designs for a package of electronic fonts under the name of Dubai.
