‘Padmavat’ to clash with ‘Padman’ on Jan 25
After being mired in countless controversies, ‘Padmavat’ that was touted to be the biggest film of 2017 will now finally hit the theatres on January 25, 2018.
This Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor saw violent protests by right-wing political outfits claiming that the director distorted crucial historical facts about the life and times of the famed Rajput Queen Padmavati.
Story so far…
There were subsequent bans on the film leading to the postponement of its release from the original date of December 1, 2017. Bounties were placed on the heads of film’s director Bhansali and lead actress Deepika Padukone leading to the cancellation of all promotional activities as well.
Finally, in December, the Central Board of Film Certification of India approved the movie for theatrical exhibition with 5 modifications including the addition of multiple disclaimers and amending its title to ‘Padmavat’.
And now putting all uncertainties to rest, the decks have been finally cleared for the film’s release for the big republic day weekend in India on Thursday, January 25th, 2018.
The problem of plenty
‘Padmavat’ will clash with another big release of the month – Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Padman’ directed by R Balki.
In fact, Jan 25th will also see the release of a thriller named ‘Aiyaary’ directed by Neeraj Pandey starring Manoj Bajpayee and Siddharth Malhotra in key roles.
Well, looks like Bollywood is finally coming out of the January Jinx and a little too much at that with not one but 3 big films up for release on the same date.
All we can say is, may the best film win!
