Bad Breakup? Facebook Is Finally Making It Easier to Get Over Your Ex

Facebook’s been pretty cool recently, what with the introduction of Livestream and 360-degree videos. And now they’re being very considerate and sensitive when it comes to matters of the heart, too.

We already know that Facebook allows you to shoutout relationship statuses and milestones for all to see — but what happens when the opposite takes place.  You've gotta keep your cool and pretend you’ve got it all together of course, avoiding your ex-other half in real life and on Facebook as well. 

After all, they say the best way to get over someone is to not even think about them — that’s exactly what Facebook is helping you out with.

With approximately 1.1 billion people logging in to Facebook everyday, it can be difficult to avoid crushes, ex-crushes, crazy exes, and people who have broken your heart before. The social media platform will be testing new tools that will activate when users let friends and data-miners alike know that they are no longer “Facebook official” with someone.


The “See less of” feature will remove your ex-lover’s posts from your News Feed, and also remove them from the list of suggested users you can tag in photos. This way, you can put all the cryptic lyrics and movie lines you want on your Facebook without your ex thinking “oh my god is that about me” — clearly, Facebook understands the pain and sting one feels when they ‘stumble’ on exes on social media. I mean, of course, there’s always the other way — to delete or unfriend them totally on Facebook.


So be the bigger person here and exit the lives of your exes, just like how they exited yours. When going through a breakup, be calm, composed, discreet, and rational. There’ll be a time to wallow, and there’ll be a time for you to just walk way and move on…and see less of them on Facebook.

While this new feature is still in the beta stages and available only to US mobile users for now, Facebook will be gathering feedback before rolling it out slowly across all platforms and countries.
