$16000 worth of Fresh Air

Co-passengers pulled out their smartphones as mid-air drama unfolded in front of them

An impatient passenger who opened the emergency exit on a plane to get some fresh air, has landed the airline in deep trouble after not only causing a two-hour delay but also costing the carrier $16,000.

The first-time flier was arrested after his bid to 'get off quicker' after the chartered flight from Bangkok to Nanjing landed at Sanya Fenghaung International Airport in Hainan.

The man claimed he had not followed the flight instructions and was not aware that one could not use the emergency exit to disembark from the aircraft. He allegedly used the emergency door to get off the plane quickly.
