Sharjah’s New Year Gift
Sharjah has installed 40 new radars to monitor speed and other violations on the emirate's roads.
The new radars will be activated on January 1, 2016.
"The installation of new radars will help motorists reduce speed, increase safety on the roads, bring down the rate of fatal accidents and deaths, maintain safety of pedestrians, especially at crossings,” said Colonel Ahmed bin Darwish, Director of the Sharjah Traffic Department.
He added that the radars have been installed after the Sharjah Traffic Department conducted a study and identified the areas where the maximum accidents have taken place.
These radars will force drivers to follow the speed limit and slow down when the traffic lights turn yellow and thus, avoid jumping signals, getting penalised with fines and black points.
In the New Year, Sharjah hopes to reduce the number of road accidents and increase safety for all.
