Australia have wrapped up the Ashes in emphatic fashion, defeating England by five wickets in the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground to complete a commanding 4–1 series victory.

Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 22, with Alex Carey finishing on 16 as Australia crossed the line.

The match also marked an emotional farewell for Usman Khawaja, who bowed out of Test cricket after an 88-match career. Khawaja made six in his final innings and was given a guard of honour by England as he walked out to bat for the last time.

Australia’s series triumph came despite the absence of key fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and, for most of the series, Pat Cummins.

The five-Test series attracted strong crowds, with nearly 860,000 fans attending overall, including a record 211,032 spectators at the Sydney Test.

With the Ashes retained once again, Australia close out the summer in style — while England head home facing a period of reflection after another challenging tour Down Under.
