Dubai has approved a deep-tunnel drainage project designed to protect the city from flooding for the next 100 years. Announced at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum 2025, the project reflects lessons learned from the heavy rainfall of April 2024, which exposed the need for resilient infrastructure. Dubai Municipality’s Acting Director General, Eng. Marwan Bin Ghalita, emphasized collaboration, public-private partnerships, and advanced technologies as key to success. The project, already under implementation, integrates Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify vulnerable areas and strengthen crisis management. With a century-long operational lifespan, it stands as one of Dubai’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives.
