India national cricket team defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup on March 8 in Ahmedabad, securing the title for the third time.
Batting first after New Zealand elected to field, India posted 255 for 5 in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the innings with 89 runs from 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma scored 52 off 21 balls and Ishan Kishan added a quick half century to help India reach one of the highest totals recorded in a T20 World Cup final.
In response, New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a key bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 15 runs, while Axar Patel finished with 3 wickets for 27 runs.
For New Zealand, Tim Seifert top scored with 52 runs, but the team lost wickets regularly and fell well short of the target.
Bumrah was named Player of the Match, while Samson ended the tournament with 321 runs and was awarded Player of the Tournament. The victory secured India’s third T20 World Cup title.
