The UAE’s National Media Office (NMO) announced on August 26 that a group of social media users will face prosecution for violating media content standards. The authorities, monitoring content around the clock, aim to ensure a responsible media environment and protect communities from harmful content. Residents are urged to use social media ethically, adhering to UAE laws that promote respect, tolerance, and coexistence. Offenses, including abusive comments or defamation, can result in fines up to Dh1 million and imprisonment. Legal provisions, including the cybercrime law and Federal Decree Law, impose strict penalties for online insults, defamation, and offensive content.
