Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama, originally titled Battle of Galwan, has been renamed Maatrubhumi, with the change linked to diplomatic considerations rather than creative preference alone. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film marks Salman’s first role as an army officer.
Sources said the decision was influenced by ongoing sensitivities between India and China. Salman was reportedly advised by official and strategic bodies to avoid direct references that could heighten tensions. In response, the makers revised the film’s tone, removing explicit anti China elements and opting to fictionalise the conflict.
The changes resulted in script revisions and reshoots, increasing the film’s overall budget. Despite this, Salman remained focused on presenting a balanced narrative. The updated version is described as a patriotic and emotional story, exploring both the professional and personal life of an army officer, including his relationship with Chitrangda Singh.
Maatrubhumi is expected to release between July and October, subject to final approvals, with additional shooting planned during the summer.
The film’s soundtrack has already been released under its original title, and listeners can keep an ear out for the tracks on 89.1 Radio 4, the UAE’s leading Bollywood radio station.
