Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for his memorable roles in Ghajini, Lagaan, and B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat, has passed away at the age of 74 after battling cancer.
The news was first shared by actor Yashpal Sharma, who paid tribute on social media, remembering Rawat as "Ghajini Deva of Lagaan."
His manager later confirmed that the actor's cancer had relapsed and that he had been undergoing treatment in hospital for more than a month. He is survived by his wife and son.
Pradeep Rawat's acting career spanned more than four decades across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Nepali and Marathi cinema.
He first became a household name with his portrayal of Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat, before establishing himself as one of Indian cinema's most recognisable villains.
Rawat played Deva Singh in the Oscar-nominated Lagaan (2001) and earned widespread acclaim as Ghajini Dharmatma in the Tamil blockbuster Ghajini (2005). He reprised the same role opposite Aamir Khan in the 2008 Hindi remake.
His Telugu debut in S.S. Rajamouli's Sye (2004) as Bikshu Yadav was another major milestone, earning him praise from audiences and critics alike.
Over the years, he appeared in several popular films, including Sarfarosh, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Rowdy Rathore, Veeram, 1: Nenokkadine, Sarrainodu, Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Waltair Veerayya, Chhaava, and many more.
