The UAE Cabinet has approved a new resolution restricting children under the age of 15 from accessing social media platforms, in a move aimed at strengthening child protection in the digital space.

Under the new rules, children below 15 will not be allowed to create, use, or operate personal social media accounts. The restrictions also extend to key platform features, including posting content, commenting, sharing posts, joining public groups, and participating in large-scale interactive channels.

The regulation applies to all social media platforms operating in the UAE. Companies will be required to implement technical and administrative systems to enforce age verification and ensure compliance with the new rules.

Authorities said the measure is designed to enhance online child safety by reducing exposure to inappropriate content, limiting unsafe online interactions, and protecting personal data from early-age misuse. It also aims to address concerns over excessive social media usage among minors.

The decision reflects the UAE’s broader push to create a safer digital environment for young users while encouraging responsible technology use across the country.
