Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a five-year plan to expand its soft mobility network, making it easier for residents to walk, cycle and use e-scooters across the city. The project will connect 25 residential communities and upgrade the surroundings of 63 Metro and bus stations by 2030.

The initiative includes wider footpaths, dedicated cycling tracks, shaded walkways, safer pedestrian crossings, bicycle parking, rest areas, landscaping and pick-up and drop-off zones. Facilities for People of Determination and shared mobility services, including Careem Bike and e-scooters, will also be added.

Work is already underway in areas such as Dubai Marina, Naif, Al Rigga, Al Murar and Al Muraqqabat. According to the RTA, Dubai recorded 342 million pedestrian journeys, 57.3 million cycling trips and 39.6 million e-scooter trips in 2025, highlighting growing demand for alternative transport.

The project supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, encouraging sustainable travel and improving first- and last-mile connectivity between homes, business districts and public transport.
