Some Dubai schools are open to changing their start and finish times to reduce school traffic, shorten commutes and improve students’ wellbeing.
School leaders say staggering school timings by 15 to 30 minutes could help spread traffic during peak hours and give children a calmer start to the day.
Bloom World Academy already starts its core school day at 9am. It also offers an earlier 8am option for families who need more flexibility.
However, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has clarified that schools cannot change their timings independently and must seek approval before making any changes.
Any adjustments must protect teaching hours, student wellbeing and family routines. School leaders have also highlighted possible challenges for parents and staff whose children attend different schools, as varying schedules could make daily arrangements more difficult.
