Schools in Dubai and Sharjah are tightening rules on parents and visitors taking photos and videos on school premises, with the aim of protecting children’s privacy, safety and wellbeing.

The new UAE school photography rules cover areas including classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, assemblies, and drop-off and pick-up zones. Parents are being asked not to photograph or record when other students or staff members are captured.

Some schools have also reminded parents not to share existing photos or videos featuring other children on WhatsApp groups or social media without consent. The move is aimed at preventing the unauthorised sharing of children’s images and protecting student privacy.

The International School of Choueifat in Sharjah has introduced stricter measures, banning photography during regular school days, even when parents are taking pictures of their own children.

Photography may still be allowed during designated school events, but parents have been asked to focus only on their own children and avoid capturing others.

Official school photography will continue under established parental consent and child safeguarding procedures.

The updated rules highlight the growing focus on student privacy, child safety and responsible use of social media in UAE schools.
