The Ministry of Education has set new student promotion rules for 2025–2026. For grades 1–3, promotion requires completing assessments and 65% attendance; otherwise, students repeat. From grade 4 onwards, stricter rules apply: all “Group A” subjects must be passed (50% in grades 4–8, 60% in grades 9–12), with no more than 15 unexcused absences. Failing students can resit exams once, but scores are capped at 60. A grade moderation policy will also apply to projects and evaluations. The ministry emphasized accountability among teachers, principals, and supervisors to ensure fairness, aiming for both rigor and recovery opportunities in education.
