Dubai Municipality has reminded residents not to leave their vehicles unattended in public areas during summer holidays, warning that abandoned vehicles can attract a Dh500 fine along with towing and impound charges.
As many residents travel abroad during the holiday season, the municipality advised motorists to take simple precautions to protect their vehicles. These include parking only in designated areas, avoiding deserted or sandy locations, carrying out regular maintenance, arranging periodic cleaning and using protective covers.
According to Dubai Municipality, inspection teams operate throughout the year to identify abandoned vehicles on roads, public parking areas and open sandy spaces. Vehicles found neglected are first issued a warning, giving owners between three and 15 days to remove them, depending on the vehicle's condition and location.
Owners of Dubai registered vehicles also receive an SMS notification through the Roads and Transport Authority. If no action is taken within the warning period, the vehicle is towed to the Al Awir impound yard in coordination with Emirates Parking.
In addition to the Dh500 fine, owners must pay towing and impound fees, which vary depending on the vehicle type, weight and storage duration. Extra charges may apply if specialised equipment is needed to remove the vehicle.
Dubai Municipality said these measures help preserve the city's clean and organised appearance while protecting residents from unnecessary penalties.
The municipality also issued important swimming pool safety advice for families during the summer holidays. Parents were urged to supervise children at all times, avoid distractions such as mobile phones, secure pool areas when not in use, install safety barriers, prevent unsafe behaviour around pools, regularly maintain water quality and keep children away from drainage and suction outlets. Residents were also advised to ensure an emergency shut off switch is easily accessible.
