The controversy surrounding actor Ranveer Singh has reached the legal stage after veteran producer T P Aggarwal filed a petition in the Bombay Civil Court at Dindoshi challenging the authority of film industry bodies to issue bans and non-cooperation directives.
Aggarwal has named the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), arguing that such organisations have no legal power to prevent members from working with specific individuals. Court notices have reportedly been issued to both bodies.
The petition comes amid FWICE’s recent non-cooperation call against Singh in connection with his ongoing dispute with production house Excel Entertainment over the upcoming film Don 3. The move has sparked renewed debate within the Hindi film industry over the legality and impact of boycott-style actions.
Aggarwal, a senior industry figure and former head of IMPPA and Film Federation of India, said creative work should not be restricted through informal bans. He stressed that disputes must be handled through proper legal channels to protect livelihoods and artistic freedom. The case is expected to intensify discussions around governance in the Indian film industry.
