Music composer Amaal Mallik has revealed why Arijit Singh decided to return to playback singing for the title track of Awarapan 2 despite announcing his retirement from playback singing earlier this year.
Amaal clarified that the song “Yeh Awarapan” was not part of any old commitment or previously recorded agreement. He said the melody was shared with Arijit a few months ago, but the singer agreed to record it only last week after connecting with the composition.
According to Amaal, Arijit’s decision was driven by their friendship and artistic bond, along with his respect for the film’s producers and lead actor Emraan Hashmi. He added that Arijit only accepts songs that truly touch his heart.
Amaal described the track as a special performance, saying the singer has given his “heart and soul” to the song.
Arijit had announced in January that he would step away from playback singing, while clarifying that he was not leaving music completely and wanted to explore other areas of his musical journey.
Awarapan 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, is directed by Nitin Kakkar and will release in theatres on August 14, 2026.
