Harees is one of the most popular Ramadan dishes in the GCC. It is made up of ground wheat and meat and is a variation of porridge can be found in all Emirati houses during iftar or later on for suhoor.
Ramadan is celebrated to focus on spiritual reflection, help and provide the needy and poor. On the night of 28th May 2019, a government department did just that while also breaking world records
The Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman helped in organizing the world’s largest dish of Harees. This dish was prepared and cooked by around 3,000 people from different parts of society. It took almost 10 consecutive days to prepare this very special Iftar, which catered to people from various nationalities and all walks of life.
Measuring 16.01 meters long, 2.34m wide and two centimeters high, this huge plate of Harees was then distributed into 800 smaller dishes and distributed to the needy.
