Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded a 700-meter section of Sheikh Zayed Road from six to seven lanes to ease congestion for vehicles coming from Abu Dhabi toward the Umm Al Sheif exit. The project boosts capacity by 16 percent, enabling 14,000 vehicles per hour. As one of Dubai’s busiest routes, Sheikh Zayed Road connects commercial hubs, residential districts, and landmarks like the Burj Khalifa. The expansion aims to reduce rush-hour bottlenecks, smooth traffic flow at critical merge points, enhance road safety, and reflects RTA’s broader strategy to improve efficiency across the city’s main transport corridors.
