Early Sunday morning, multiple gunshots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai, causing alarm among residents. No injuries were reported, but police recovered evidence of gunfire and examined CCTV footage around the building. In response, authorities increased security at Shetty’s home and launched a high-priority investigation.
The Mumbai Police and Crime Branch formed 12 dedicated teams to track down the suspects. By Sunday afternoon, five men were detained in Pune based on intelligence inputs and were later handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch. According to officials, one of the five is believed to be the shooter, and all detainees are undergoing interrogation to confirm their roles and motives.
Shortly after the incident, a social media post allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility, warning Shetty against “interfering” in their operations and describing the shooting as a “small trailer” with threats of further action. Police are currently verifying the authenticity of this claim and also exploring alternative angles.
Investigators continue to probe the motive behind the attack while ensuring heightened security for the filmmaker and the surrounding neighbourhood.
