
UAE resident Sedique Ahamed has made global headlines after completing the London Marathon in a kandura, setting a new Guinness World Record in one of the most unusual endurance challenges ever seen on the course.
The 35 year old Indian expat covered the full 42.1 km distance in 3:19:20 while wearing the traditional UAE national dress. While he has previously completed marathons in a business suit and industrial coveralls, he described the kandura as the most physically demanding due to its restriction on natural movement.
He explained that the early kilometres felt manageable, but after 15 km the challenge intensified as stride control became difficult. By the 30 km mark, fatigue and heat made every step a test of focus and discipline. Despite this, encouragement from spectators and fellow runners kept him motivated throughout the race.
