Daniel Vettori has defended the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting lineup after their shocking collapse against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 season.
SRH were bowled out for just 86 while chasing 169, suffering one of their heaviest defeats in IPL history. Despite the disappointing result, Vettori described the performance as a rare off day for a batting unit that has consistently impressed with its aggressive approach throughout the tournament.
Speaking after the match, the SRH head coach said the team understood the importance of getting a strong start during the chase but failed to build momentum in the Powerplay. He added that the batting group has been exceptional this season and one poor outing should not overshadow their performances.
The match also highlighted the strength of Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack. Bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj once again dominated with the new ball, continuing their impressive IPL 2026 form.
GT spinner Sai Kishore praised the bowling strategy led by captain Shubman Gill and coach Ashish Nehra, saying the team focused on disciplined Test match style bowling on a pitch that offered seam movement and extra assistance.
The victory further strengthens Gujarat Titans’ push towards the IPL 2026 playoffs, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will now look to bounce back quickly in the remaining league matches.
