Rajasthan Royals (RR) booked their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs with a strong 30-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Mumbai on Sunday, as Abu Dhabi-born leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja delivered another composed performance under pressure. Chasing 206 for victory, MI were restricted to 175-9, as RR’s bowling unit held firm in the final stages to seal a crucial win and confirm their qualification for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
The result meant Riyan Parag’s Rajasthan Royals finished with 16 points, becoming the fourth and final team to enter the IPL playoffs. RR will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 in a highly anticipated knockout stage.
Jofra Archer was instrumental in the victory, contributing with both bat and ball. He smashed a quickfire 32 off 15 balls before returning to claim 3-17, keeping Mumbai Indians under constant pressure. However, it was Yash Raj Punja who once again stood out in the middle overs, picking up two key wickets at important moments to break MI’s chase.
The 20-year-old Abu Dhabi-born spinner has been one of the most promising young performers in IPL 2026. Having already taken six wickets in five matches before this game, Punja continued his rise with another impactful spell against MI. His ability to stay calm while bowling in high-pressure situations has made him a valuable asset for Rajasthan Royals this season.
