Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has shared that he did not charge any fee for his latest film Main Actor Nahin Hoon, saying the decision reflects the same approach he took earlier with Manto. He explained that while money is important, it should not become the only factor guiding an actor’s choices, as it can affect creativity and passion.
Siddiqui said he never entered the film industry with the goal of becoming wealthy through acting. He added that if earning money was his only priority, he would have chosen a different profession altogether. The actor revealed that he also did not take any remuneration for Manto, as he believed both films deserved to be made and shared with audiences regardless of their commercial scale.
Talking about his experience on set, he said Main Actor Nahin Hoon felt deeply fulfilling, describing it as an “honest and experimental” project that reminded him of his theatre days. He also noted that the film may have a limited release, possibly on 50–60 screens, but the creative satisfaction outweighed everything else.
Siddiqui is also working on Tumbbad 2, the sequel to the cult hit Tumbbad, which is expected to go into production soon.
