Sri Lanka secured a solid 41 run victory over West Indies in the first ODI in Kingston after a strong all round batting and bowling performance led by Pathum Nissanka and Dushmantha Chameera.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 303 for 7, built on a crucial 136 run partnership between Nissanka, who scored a composed 79 off 102 balls, and captain Kusal Mendis, who added a quick 72 off 62 deliveries. Valuable contributions from Charith Asalanka with 45 and Janith Liyanage unbeaten on 44 helped the visitors set a challenging total.
In reply, West Indies showed brief resistance through captain Shai Hope, who made 56, and Justin Greaves with 45. However, consistent breakthroughs kept the chase under control as the hosts were bowled out for 262 in the final over.
Dushmantha Chameera was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 4 for 67 and breaking key partnerships at crucial moments. Despite small partnerships in the middle order, West Indies lost wickets regularly, allowing Sri Lanka to take a 1 0 lead in the three match series.
