Ras Al Khaimah has introduced its first electric public bus service as part of efforts to expand sustainable transport options in the emirate. The new service operates on the upgraded Purple Route, which officially began on June 3 and will offer free rides for all passengers during its first month.
The initiative, launched by the Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority, extends the route by 14 kilometres and connects key destinations including government offices, hospitals, educational institutions, and Manar Mall. The route runs 12 trips daily with nine major stops, improving accessibility and reducing travel gaps across the city.
Officials said the introduction of electric buses reflects the emirate’s commitment to environmentally friendly transport solutions and reducing carbon emissions. The upgraded service is also expected to enhance daily commuting by improving connectivity and cutting waiting times for residents and visitors.
RAKTA has also outlined broader plans to expand its public transport network, with a target to increase urban coverage from 55 percent to 65 percent by the end of 2026. The expansion is part of a long term vision to make mobility more efficient and sustainable across the emirate.
