Daniel Muñoz fired Colombia into the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 with a decisive 76th-minute goal in a tightly contested 1-0 win over DR Congo in Group K.

The defender struck from the right side of the penalty area after Colombia dominated large portions of the match but were repeatedly denied by an inspired performance from DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi.

Colombia created several clear chances throughout the game, with James Rodríguez making his 10th World Cup appearance to equal a national record. He was heavily involved in midfield creativity, while Luis Díaz and Jhon Arias also tested the opposition goalkeeper multiple times.

DR Congo, meanwhile, threatened occasionally through Cedric Bakambu and Yoane Wissa but struggled to convert their opportunities into goals despite a strong defensive display.

The breakthrough finally came in the 76th minute when Muñoz found space inside the box and finished clinically, securing all three points and Colombia’s qualification to the knockout stage with a match to spare.

Colombia now sit on six points from two matches and will face Portugal in their final group fixture, while DR Congo must win their last match against Uzbekistan to stay in contention for qualification.
