The UAE’s national rail operator Etihad Rail has recorded strong demand ahead of the launch of its first passenger train services, with more than 10,000 tickets sold before operations officially began.
The inaugural journey departed from Fujairah at 5:34am and arrived at Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed City station ahead of schedule, marking a key milestone in the country’s long-awaited rail network rollout. Six passenger services are currently operating in the initial phase, with several upcoming departures already fully booked due to high demand.
Etihad Rail is also coordinating with Abu Dhabi Mobility to integrate train services with buses, taxis, and other public transport systems, aiming to create a seamless, connected travel experience across emirates.
Officials say the network will significantly reshape mobility in the UAE, making intercity travel faster and more efficient while supporting the country’s broader infrastructure and urban connectivity goals.
