Rajkummar Rao's journey to Bollywood success wasn't easy. Before becoming one of the industry's most celebrated actors, the National Award-winning star was once scammed out of ₹10,000 while chasing his dream of becoming an actor.
During an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Rajkummar recalled that he came across a newspaper advertisement for a television project during his struggling days. Hoping to land his first acting role, he cycled from Gurgaon to Delhi to attend the meeting.
At the office, he was asked to pay ₹10,000 in exchange for a role. Trusting the promise, Rajkummar handed over the money. However, when he returned a few days later, the office had disappeared, leaving him to realise he had fallen victim to a fake casting scam.
Despite the setback, Rajkummar refused to give up on his dream. After graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), he made his film debut in 2010 before earning widespread acclaim with films such as Kai Po Che!, Shahid, Queen, Newton, Trapped, and the Stree franchise.
Today, Rajkummar is regarded as one of Bollywood's most versatile performers, known for taking on challenging and diverse roles.
The actor is now gearing up for one of the biggest projects of his career, Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story. The makers recently unveiled the film's first-look poster on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly's birthday, with Rajkummar recreating Ganguly's iconic shirt-waving celebration at Lord's after India's memorable 2002 NatWest Series victory.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Dada will chronicle the life and career of Sourav Ganguly, with Rajkummar stepping into the shoes of one of Indian cricket's most iconic captains.
