Alia Bhatt has officially joined the cast of Tumbbad 2, with actor and producer Sohum Shah confirming the news through a social media announcement.
Welcoming Alia to the franchise, Sohum shared pictures with the actor and wrote, "A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to Tumbbad 2. Pralay Aayega. See you at the movies."
Explaining why she chose to be part of the horror sequel, Alia said Tumbbad left a lasting impression on her.
She described it as one of the rare films that created a truly original and immersive world, adding that its ability to remain in audiences' minds years after release made joining the sequel an exciting opportunity.
While the makers have not revealed details about her character, reports suggest Alia's role will be much more than a cameo. She is expected to film for around 20 days, with her character playing a key role in the climax of Tumbbad 2 and continuing into Tumbbad 3.
Directed by Adesh Prasad, who also co wrote the original film, Tumbbad 2 stars Sohum Shah, Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles.
The sequel will revisit the dark mythology of Hastar, expanding the supernatural folklore introduced in the 2018 cult classic. Produced on a much larger scale, the film reportedly has a budget of around Rs 100 crore, with massive village sets built in Mumbai to recreate the eerie world of Tumbbad.
Carrying the tagline "Pralay Aayega", Tumbbad 2 is scheduled to release in cinemas on December 3, 2027.
