Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has admitted he regrets taking a public swipe at film critic Anupama Chopra over her review of Ranveer Singh's blockbuster Dhurandhar, saying he "should not have done it."
The controversy began in 2025 after Anupama Chopra criticised Dhurandhar for its themes of hyper masculinity and aggressive nationalism. In response, Rawal posted on social media asking, "Aren't you tired of being Miss Irrelevant?", a remark that quickly went viral and sparked widespread debate.
Speaking in a recent interview, Rawal acknowledged that although he disagreed with Chopra's review, his social media post was unnecessary.
He said criticism should always be constructive and pointed out that reviewers only see the finished product without knowing the circumstances behind an actor's performance or the creative decisions made during production.
Rawal maintained that he believes Dhurandhar is a good film but emphasised that audiences are free to form their own opinions. He added that criticism should encourage discussion rather than dismiss a film outright.
The actor also condemned the online abuse and threats directed at Anupama Chopra following his post, urging people to remain respectful.
"Don't abuse Anupama Chopra. She is an educated and cultured person," Rawal said.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar was released in two parts and became one of Bollywood's biggest box office successes. According to industry reports, the first film earned over ₹1,307 crore worldwide, while Dhurandhar 2 surpassed it with a global collection of more than ₹1,813 crore.
