Dubai's General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has clarified the rules for the UAE's five-year multiple-entry tourist visa, allowing travellers of all nationalities to visit the country multiple times without the need for a sponsor or host.
The self-sponsored visa is valid for five years and permits visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days per visit. This can be extended for another 90 days, provided the total stay does not exceed 180 days in a calendar year.
The long-term visa is designed for tourists, frequent travellers, family visitors and business travellers seeking greater flexibility than standard tourist visas.
To qualify, applicants must have a passport valid for at least six months, a recent passport-sized photograph, valid health insurance, a return ticket, and bank statements from the previous six months showing a minimum balance of 4,000 US dollars or its equivalent.
Applications can be submitted through the UAE's official digital platforms, smart applications, Customer Happiness Centres, or Amer Service Centres. The process includes completing an application, uploading required documents and paying the applicable fees.
The total application cost is Dh3,713, which includes visa fees, service charges and a refundable financial guarantee. Final charges may vary depending on individual circumstances.
Authorities have advised visa holders to monitor their travel records carefully to avoid overstaying penalties.
The five-year tourist visa is expected to boost tourism, encourage repeat visits and strengthen the UAE's position as a leading global travel destination.
