Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reiterated that it does not issue permits for major engine modifications, excessive vehicle noise, or alterations that change a vehicle's original factory specifications.
The authority said the regulations are designed to protect road users and ensure vehicles continue to meet approved international safety standards.
Ahmed Mahboob, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA's Licensing Agency, advised vehicle owners to consult the RTA before carrying out any modifications. He warned that some owners spend significant amounts on vehicle upgrades that later fail to meet regulatory requirements and cannot be approved.
According to the RTA, specialist teams are available to assess proposed modifications in advance and advise owners on whether they comply with safety regulations. In some cases, the authority can recommend changes to ensure the modifications meet the required standards, helping owners avoid the cost of reversing unauthorized work.
The RTA emphasized that vehicle engines and key components must not be modified in ways that alter the manufacturer's original specifications, as these vehicles are designed and tested to comply with international safety requirements.
The authority also confirmed that it does not approve substantial engine upgrades or modifications that increase vehicle noise. The maximum permitted noise level for vehicles in Dubai is 95 decibels, with compliance monitored by the relevant authorities.
The RTA said the primary objective of these regulations is to ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians and all road users while maintaining approved vehicle safety standards across the emirate.
