India’s teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has created history by breaking one of Sachin Tendulkar’s 37-year-old records, becoming the youngest Indian cricketer to win an international Player of the Match award.
The 15-year-old opener delivered a sensational performance during India’s T20I series against Zimbabwe, finishing as the standout performer as India completed a 3-0 series sweep.
Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs in three matches at an extraordinary strike rate of 196.10, earning the Player of the Series award. He capped off the series with a match-winning knock of 81 runs off just 49 balls in the third T20I at Harare.
His explosive innings helped India secure a convincing victory while also earning him his first international Player of the Match award.
At the age of 15 years and 121 days, Sooryavanshi surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record as the youngest Indian to achieve the feat. Tendulkar had won his first international Player of the Match award during the 1990 Test series against England at the age of 17 years and 112 days.
Earlier in the series, Sooryavanshi had already broken another Tendulkar record by becoming the youngest player in men’s international cricket to score a half-century.
With his performances against Zimbabwe, Sooryavanshi also became the youngest player in men’s international cricket to win both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.
Reflecting on the achievement, the young batter said, “It felt very good. It is a dream come true for me. First man of the match and man of the series. The preparation here has been good.”
Sooryavanshi’s remarkable rise has added another exciting chapter to Indian cricket’s tradition of producing teenage talents, while giving fans a glimpse of a potential future superstar.
