The Ju-Jitsu World Championship 2026 has officially begun in Abu Dhabi, bringing together more than 1,500 athletes from across the globe for one of the sport’s biggest international events.
The opening ceremony was held at Mubadala Arena and was organised by the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation in partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
Running until August 9, 2026, the championship features athletes competing across multiple categories, including Under-16, Under-18, Under-21 and adult divisions.
The ceremony included the UAE National Anthem, a showcase video highlighting the growth of jiu-jitsu and Abu Dhabi’s role as a global hub for the sport.
Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohamed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, praised the support of UAE leadership and said the participation of more than 1,500 athletes reflects the world’s confidence in Abu Dhabi’s ability to host major sporting events.
He added that the championship will provide an opportunity for athletes to compete at the highest level while strengthening Abu Dhabi’s contribution to the development of jiu-jitsu worldwide.
UAE National Team athlete Asma Alhosani welcomed athletes, coaches and delegations, highlighting the values of respect, discipline and fair play that unite competitors from different countries.
Panagiotis Theodoropoulos from the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation also praised Abu Dhabi’s organisation capabilities and its growing reputation as a leading destination for global sporting events.
The championship further strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as an international centre for martial arts and elite sporting competitions.
