Shah Rukh Khan's much-awaited action film King remains on schedule for its December 24, 2026 theatrical release, putting an end to rumours that the film had been delayed to 2027.
According to reports, the release date announced earlier this year remains unchanged, with the makers moving ahead as planned.
The Christmas weekend is expected to witness one of the biggest box office clashes in recent years, as King will compete with Hollywood blockbusters Avengers: Doomsday, Jumanji: Open World, and Dune: Part Three.
Trade experts believe Avengers: Doomsday will be the biggest competitor in India due to Marvel's huge fan base, while Dune: Part Three is expected to attract IMAX audiences and Jumanji: Open World is likely to draw family viewers.
Despite the competition, industry analysts feel King has a strong advantage in India because of Shah Rukh Khan's massive popularity and its appeal as a Hindi-language film.
Internationally, the film is also expected to perform well, with Shah Rukh Khan's global fan following and overseas distribution by Yash Raj Films expected to help secure premium screens.
Reports also suggest that postponing the film to 2027 may not have been beneficial, as next year's release calendar is already packed with major films including Love & War, Spirit, and Varanasi.
While exhibitors expect the festive season to boost cinema attendance, some single-screen theatre owners have expressed concerns over screen allocation due to the number of big releases arriving together.
