Veteran actor Nana Patekar has passed away at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. The actor was found unconscious and taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors tried to revive him with continuous CPR for around 45 minutes. He could not be revived and was declared dead early Thursday morning.

A medico legal case has been registered and a post mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Nana Patekar’s last rites will be held at his farmhouse in Donje, on the outskirts of Pune, on Thursday. Maharashtra authorities have also decided to accord him a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Marathi theatre and Hindi and Marathi cinema.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana began his film career with Gaman in 1978. He went on to deliver memorable performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome and Natsamrat.

He won three National Film Awards and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013. His death has led to an outpouring of tributes from across the film industry.
