Actor Alia Bhatt has praised comedian Samay Raina for his comedy special Still Alive, calling it “pure art” and revealing that she became emotional while watching it.
During a behind-the-scenes interaction from India’s Got Latent Season 2, Alia spoke about how deeply she connected with Samay’s storytelling, especially the emotional portions about his friendship with comedian Balraj Ghai.
Alia said she could genuinely feel the bond between the two comedians through the performance and admitted that she was crying while watching parts of the special.
Samay explained that the stand-up special was much more than just jokes for him. He shared that he realised comedy could also become a medium for storytelling and emotional expression. According to him, stand-up comedy is not only about punchlines but also about communicating personal experiences through humour.
The comedian also revealed that Still Alive was performed nearly 200 times across multiple cities before the final version was released. Speaking about the emotional segments in the special, Samay said he intentionally never rehearsed or scripted those portions off-stage. Instead, he would mentally place himself back into those real-life moments during every performance, which often made him emotional on stage.
Balraj Ghai added that revisiting those performances repeatedly became emotionally overwhelming for him as well, saying some of the early shows left them both in tears.
