Bangladesh made a steady start against Pakistan on the opening day of the first Test in Dhaka, reaching 101 for 2 at lunch after recovering from an early setback.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque led the fightback with an unbeaten 70 run partnership for the third wicket after Pakistan struck twice in the opening session. Shanto remained unbeaten on 39, while Mominul Haque was batting on 31 at the break.
Pakistan pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi looked dangerous early on and removed both Bangladesh openers. Mahmudul Hasan was dismissed for 8 after edging behind, while Shadman Islam departed for 13 following another edge to slip.
Bangladesh were under pressure at 31 for 2 before the experienced pair stabilised the innings with composed batting against the Pakistan bowling attack.
The match also marked the return of Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed to the Test side after a long absence since December 2024. Pakistan, meanwhile, entered the game without star batter Babar Azam, who missed the Test due to injury.
