Dubai RTA Sets Up 23 Summer Rest Areas for Delivery Riders Across Metro and Bus Stations - 89.1 Radio 4 FM

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched 23 temporary rest areas for delivery riders across metro and bus stations during the UAE’s summer midday break period. The initiative aims to improve rider safety, reduce heat-related risks, and support delivery workers during peak afternoon temperatures.

The number of rest areas has increased by 53 per cent compared to last year, rising from 15 locations in 2025 to 23 this year. The move comes in line with the UAE’s midday break regulations, which ban outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12:30pm and 3pm from June 15 to September 15.

The designated locations include major transport hubs such as Gold Souq Bus Station, Al Satwa Bus Station, BurJuman Metro Station, Ibn Battuta Metro Station, DMCC Metro Station, Centrepoint Metro Station, Al Furjan Metro Station, and e& Metro Station.

According to the RTA, the initiative is designed to provide riders with safe and comfortable spaces while waiting for new orders during extreme heat hours. Officials said the project also supports road safety, improves rider well-being, and encourages compliance with labour and traffic regulations.

The UAE Food Bank, in partnership with Deliveroo, is also providing ready-made hot meals at selected bus station rest areas as part of the initiative.

Dubai has also witnessed major growth in the delivery sector, with the number of delivery companies in the emirate increasing by nearly 18 per cent, reaching 2,948 companies this year.
