Egypt national football team are hopeful that captain Mohamed Salah will recover in time to face Australia national football team in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash, despite suffering a hamstring strain in the group stage.

Salah was forced off during Egypt’s 1-1 draw against Iran, a match that confirmed their progression to the knockout rounds after an unbeaten group campaign. Scans later confirmed a hamstring injury, but the 34-year-old has since returned to training, with team officials expressing cautious optimism about his availability.

The forward has been central to Egypt’s campaign, scoring against New Zealand and providing key assists earlier in the tournament. If he is unable to feature, attacking responsibility is expected to fall on Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush.

Egypt are also monitoring several defensive concerns ahead of the match, with multiple players—including Mohamed Abdelmonem and Ahmed Fatouh—struggling with injuries. Despite this, the team remains hopeful that Salah’s return could provide a major boost as they chase a historic first-ever World Cup knockout victory.
