Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by the Delhi High Court in seven cheque bounce cases linked to a financial dispute involving a debt of around Rs 9 crore.
The court, while hearing the matter on Thursday, denied relief to the actor and directed him to pay Rs 1.05 crore to the complainant in each case, along with an additional payment of Rs 25,000 to the State.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma also issued directions involving Rajpal Yadav’s wife, Radha Yadav, asking her to pay around Rs 5 crore in each of the seven cases. The court clarified that the Rs 2.25 crore already paid by Rajpal Yadav would be adjusted against the total amount payable.
During an earlier hearing, Yadav appeared virtually before the court and opposed the settlement proposal. The actor said he had already suffered major financial losses and claimed he had sold property and made substantial payments towards the dispute.
The Delhi High Court had earlier suggested a structured payment plan, including a proposal to pay Rs 3 crore within a specified period. However, the court clarified that the suggestion was not a final settlement, and the parties failed to reach an agreement.
Rajpal Yadav, known for his comic performances in films such as Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Chup Chup Ke, has been involved in the legal dispute arising from alleged financial transactions and dishonoured cheques.
