Saif Ali Khan has shared his thoughts on the changing landscape of Bollywood, saying romantic comedies no longer connect with audiences the way they once did.

The actor, who became one of the biggest faces of the rom com genre with films like Hum Tum and Salaam Namaste, described romantic comedies as a “beautiful but failed experiment” in Indian cinema.

Speaking during promotions for his latest crime drama Kartavya, Saif said modern audiences struggle to relate to stories centred around privileged and confused characters. According to the actor, viewers today are looking for deeper and more emotionally grounded love stories.

Saif also revealed that his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan jokingly told him he may have outgrown playing confused romantic leads, adding that their son Ibrahim Ali Khan should now take over such roles.

Despite his comments, Saif admitted he still enjoys the genre and would love to return to a romantic comedy in the future if the right script comes along.

The actor’s remarks have sparked conversations among Bollywood fans in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and across the UAE, where classic Hindi rom coms continue to enjoy a loyal fan following.
