Sharjah has unveiled major road infrastructure projects worth Dh750 million aimed at improving traffic flow and strengthening connectivity with Dubai. The plan focuses on reducing congestion on key inter-emirate routes and enhancing access to major highways and urban centres.
A key highlight of the project is a new tunnel at the Al Taawun Roundabout, designed to streamline movement in one of Sharjah’s busiest traffic zones. In addition, Al Noor Road will be opened, creating a direct connection from Al Orooba Street in Sharjah to Dubai via Al Nahda Bridge by the end of the year.
As part of construction work, the Al Taawun Roundabout Monument was temporarily removed due to its underground foundations interfering with tunnel development. Authorities confirmed that the monument will be reinstated at its original location once the project is completed.
Officials said the upgraded road network will significantly reduce congestion, improve access to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, and make travel to key destinations like Expo Centre Sharjah easier and faster.
The initiative reflects Sharjah’s broader push to modernise infrastructure and improve daily mobility for residents and commuters across both emirates.
