Dubai is set to launch SARAAB, an artificial intelligence model designed to detect deepfake videos, by the end of 2026.
Developed by the Dubai Electronic Security Centre, SARAAB can analyse an entire video and identify specific sections that may have been digitally manipulated. The system uses a heat map to highlight facial areas that have been altered, helping users identify deepfake content more easily.
According to the Dubai Electronic Security Centre, SARAAB has an accuracy rate of 91%, which it says is among the highest globally. The model was developed over the past six months as concerns grow over the use of deepfakes in fake advertisements, misleading content and other forms of digital manipulation.
SARAAB will also be deployed on Hugging Face, an open AI platform, allowing users to view, modify and improve its source code.
The Dubai Electronic Security Centre said SARAAB is the first AI model developed by a government entity in the Arab region specifically for detecting deepfake content. The initiative is part of Dubai’s wider efforts to use artificial intelligence and advanced technology to improve digital security.
