Veteran Bollywood actor and MP Jaya Bachchan’s speech in the upper house of the Indian Parliament has prompted Mumbai police to provide round the clock security outside her iconic home in Mumbai.

Jaya Bachchan had lashed out at actor and MP Ravi Kishen, who had spoken against the drug mafia in Bollywood. Speaking in defence of the Indian film industry, the seasoned actor and MP said, “Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry…Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me ched karte hain.”

While her comments were lauded by many within Bollywood, including her contemporary and BJP MP Hema Malini, it wasn’t the same on social media. #ShameOnJayaBachchan started trending minutes after her speech went viral and there were multiple hate messages for the 72-year-old veteran actor.

Kangana Ranaut also hit out at Jaya Bachchan with scathing comments on twitter which prompted further trolling of the yesteryear actress, who has often been in the news for reprimanding mediapersons for their conduct at public events.

The Sushant Singh Rajput death has divided the Hindi film industry down the middle with a lot of public shaming of celebrities that has now become a norm on social media. The same has intensified after Sushant’s girlfriend and the prime accused in the case was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau on charges of drug use and supply.
